Survey explores age friendlinessMay 22, 2009 by Glen Hallick The Macdonald Age Friendly Advisory Committee is looking forward to the results of their survey. Susanne Moore, recreation director of the White Plain Recreation District, said age friendliness means the level and quality of services available for people of different ages, especially those for seniors. The survey was based upon one developed by the Centre of Aging at the University of Manitoba. “We looked at it and refined it to suit a rural area,” said Moore. In this case it’s for the Rural Municipality of Macdonald. She noted a serious concern for seniors in the municipality. “We know there is a lack of housing for seniors,” Moore said. The seven-page survey also asks questions on a variety of topics including transportation, infrastructure, safety, respect and social inclusion, and community services. Moore said Macdonald is unique because as one of 10 communities selected to participate it doesn’t have a large urban centre. The survey is available in each of the villages in the municipality and the deadline to return them is May 30.
