Our mission is to address issues in our community that will enable seniors 55+ to maintain or enhance their quality of life.



Transcona Council for Seniors
The Transcona Council for Seniors (TCS) is offering Transcona's 55+ population services and programs such as meals, exercise and much more. If you should have any questions, or if you would like to learn more about the Council, please call Colleen at 222-9879. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.

The Board of Directors generally meet once a month on varying dates. If you wish to provide information, ideas, concerns or would like to attend a meeting, please contact Colleen at 222-9879.

Transcona 55+ Dining Experience
The Transcona Council for Seniors is sponsoring meals three days a week for seniors 55+ living in the community. The meal program provides the opportunity for individuals to have a delicious meal cooked by a qualified Meal Program Coordinator.
EVENING MEAL:    Monday and Wednesday -    4:30 pm -    $6.00

NOON MEAL:    Friday     -     $5.00

The Transcona Memorial United Church (TMUC) at 209 Yale Avenue West donates the use of their kitchen for the Council to prepare meals . The meals (soup/salad, entree, dessert and unlimited coffee/tea) are served Monday & Wednesdays @ 4:30 pm and Fridays @ 12:00 noon. Reservations are required and can be done by calling 222-5947 no later than 8:00 am on the day you wish to attend.

COMING EVENTS

We are preparing for a very special year as 2012 is the Centennial of Transcona. All Senior groups are encouraged to participate. If the Transcona Council for Seniors (TCS) can be of any assistance please contact Colleen at 222-9879. TCS is planning a 100 plate dinner, on April 11th, 2012 to kick off this year of celebration.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1st, 2012 - the Alzheimer's Caregivers' Group will meet at Transcona Memorial United Church from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Knox lounge

FEBRUARY 7th to MARCH 20th, 2012 - a six week nutrition program called Livin' It Up will be held at 328 Whittier Avenue West at 1:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $20.00. You will receive helpful information on nutrition as well as fun activities that encourage lifestyle changes to help us maintain and improve our healthy eating. To register please call Colleen at 222-9879.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, 2012 - there is another fun night of GAMES at 328 Whittier Avenue West. Bring a friend and join in the fun. $1.00 at the door will pay for coffee and cookies. Some games being played are scrabble, crokinole, dominos and any other game you may wish to play.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14th, 2012 - the Vision Impaired Group will meet at Devonshire House, 75 Kildonan Green drive from 1 p.m until 2:30 p.m. This group is for Seniors who have eyesight difficulties and would enjoy meeting to discuss issues pertaining to eyesight. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, 2012 - a Valentines Dance will be held at 328 Whittier Avenue West between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. There will be a live old time band and lunch will be served. All this for just $8.00. Call Colleen at 222-9879 for tickets which you require in advance.

Exercising - is available in all Seniors blocks and at TMUC - see Program Calendar below for more information

Whist or cribbage is played every Friday at 1:30 p.m. at 328 Whittier Avenue West. Everyone 55+ is welcome

Beginners Line Dancing - Mondays - 1pm at TRCC - 328 Whittier Avenue West.

Intermediate Line Dancing - Friday, 10a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at 328 Whittier Avenue West.

Transportation For Seniors

This service is offered to all individuals, 55+ residing in the Transcona community, who need a ride. Transportation is offered to and from medical appointments, banking appointments, recreational activities, etc. Where there are a limited number of volunteers, priority will be given to individuals with medical appointments.  Please call the council office at 222-9879 to find out more.

E.R.I.K (Emergency Response Information Kit)
E.R.I.K. has been developed by a community Advisory Council, established in response to community concerns regarding the availability of adequate information in emergency situations. All area emergency groups have endorsed this program. Once completed, the kit provides the necessary information for emergency personnel to respond quickly to your situation.
